Getting there and around
Green Point is a walkable Atlantic-side base: the V and A Waterfront is about fifteen minutes on foot along Beach Road, the CBD twenty via Somerset Road, and the promenade three. The paved seafront path runs from the Mouille Point lighthouse on Beach Road all the way to Bantry Bay, about three kilometres one way, free and floodlit. De Waterkant and the Cape Quarter at 72 Waterkant Street are ten minutes on foot up Somerset Road, and the walk back down to Green Point is safe and busy until late.
When to go
The promenade is busiest between 6pm and 8pm in summer, when half the city is out on it. Match nights at the Cape Town Stadium bring the crowd walking in from Main Road, which beats any tour. The Sunday market on the Green Point Common runs from about 9am to 3pm. Beach Road in summer carries the wind that gives the area its reputation, so the block grid between Main Road, Three Anchor Bay Road and Glengariff Road is the calmer base.
