Rustenburg is a regional hub where mining, agriculture and tourism meet, sitting at the foot of the Magaliesberg. Visitors come for the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre, the Olifantsnek Dam and the surrounding Magaliesberg Biosphere Reserve, and the city works as a gateway north along the N4 corridor towards the Pilanesberg National Park.

Getting there and around

Rustenburg is reached by road on the N4 highway, which links Pretoria and the Botswana border, and the N2 from Johannesburg. When to go

The dry winter months from May to August are the best time to visit, with mild daytime temperatures and minimal rainfall, ideal for hiking in the Magaliesberg and for days in the game reserves. Summer, from November to February, is warmer with afternoon thunderstorms, though the landscape turns greener and birdlife is more active. Most rain falls between November and March.
